Pre-Assessment: Think-Pair-Share
Topic - 'at' word family
Students will begin by brainstorming as many words in the 'at' family as they can think of. They will write and/or draw these words on their individual whiteboards. After three minutes of individual work, they will partner up. They will discuss their lists together and brainstorm any additional words they can think of. After three minutes of pair work, they will report back to the whole class. Using words from each group the class will make one collaborative mind-map of 'at' words.
Students will be assessed both individually (and in their pairs) on their background knowledge of this word family. Their performance on this pre-assessment will determine which of the three groups they will be placed in for the lesson.
