Formative
Definition: Process of gathering evidence of student learning by providing feedback and then adjusting instruction strategies to promote student achievement.
Example 1: Exit ticket Padlet- students complete a Padlet that asks them to list 2 things they leaned from the lesson that day.
Example 2: Gimkit- this fun and interactive game will engage students while also allowing teachers to receive data on what students are understanding.
Performance

Example 1: Act out- students act out a part of a play or story to demonstrate their knowledge and comprehension of the text.
Example 2: Brochure- students create a travel brochure describing and highlighting the aspects of a specific country in order to show their knowledge of that area of the world.
Diagnostic

Example 1: Word lists- using word lists to determine a student's instructional reading level is an example of a diagnostic assessment.
Example 2 Pre-assessment in our PA's- we use a pretest before we give our PA lesson in order to structure our lessons around what students need reinforcement on.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Just like formative assessments, Interim assessments also help drive teacher instruction. However, they are often given at the district level and are used to track student mastery.
Example 1: The CFA students take every nine weeks. It gives teachers data needed in order to adjust instruction to ensure students are meeting the standards.
Example 2: The District Assessment given at the end of the nine weeks measures what students learned during that period of time. It also gives teachers data on if students have shown any growth from the CFA and if any places in instruction need to be adjusted.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to measure student achievement at the conclusion of a certain instructional period.
