PD Reflection - October 9th, 2020
Embrace the Challenge
"We are special, we have an oppurutunity to succeed in conditions no one else has been put through before."
Clear understanding for students of what is expected of them in conjunction with appropriate challenges
Using our unique Covid situation to our advantage by challenging our students and ourselves to improve ourselves despite new obstacles
Student: Being motivated through ones interests to extend their learning in new directions. Understanding why embracing challenges is important and leads to tangible growth.
Teacher: Understanding the innate interests and personalities that exists in your room to create achievable, practical and FUN challenges all students are motivated to work towards.
Future Goals
I want to get the students more involved in their own learning despite their inexperience in a school environment (gr 1/2)
Pushing myself outside my comfort zone to find new resources to better reach each student during Covid. New digital resources, unique
Creating new unique pedagogic solutions for a Covid environment. Is there a way to integrate inquiry projects, large group interaction (digital?) and still maintain Covid guidelines?
Thoughts
Students haven't lost their hunger for learning. They are just as eager to learn despite all the changes in their environment due to Covid. How can I match their level of excitement while changing fundamental approaches to learning in the classroom?
Students not being able to freely flow around the classroom has been a major hurdle for me. I enjoy when learners can use their classroom environment in way that makes them feel fully part of a classroom community. Is there a way to create this feeling while still limiting where students go and what they can use due to Covid?
Iv'e been so caught up in working through a Covid environment I sometimes lose touch with what makes me the happiest while teaching: DOING instead of OVERTHINKING
