Court of appeal-Deals with appeals from other courts
Advantages-very few cases actually reach this stage as they have to go through all the other courts first.
Disadvantage-Could cause system of precedent to break down

criminal law involves the state punishing offenders on behalf of society. morally wrong as well as legally wrong. punished with fines, community sentences or prison.
civil courts
Three track system- small claims are under £10,000 and can take up to an hour in the county court room.
fast track- between £10,000-£25,000 these county court cases can take up to 1 day to trail.
multi track- between £25,000- high court cases, these are more complex cases which can take over 1 day to trial.

civil courts involves private law between individuals or organisations. They have not done anything wrong to offend society as a whole. The state is not involved as its a private case and you cannot go to prison for a civil offence, but you pay have to pay compensation to the person you have wronged.
ADR- alternative dispute resolution. This is a way of resolving disputes between consumers and traders that don't involve going to court (civil procedures rules 1998)
