Current, Resistance and Potential Difference
The current in a component depends on both the resistance of the component and the potential difference.
-
Resistors
-
The resistance of components such as lamps, diodes, thermistors and LDRs is not constant. These are known as 'Non-Ohmic Conductors'
Filament Lamp - As the current increases, the temperature of the filament increases therefore the resistance of the lamp increases
-
Thermistors - A types of resistor where the resistance varies with temperature. As temperature increases, resistance decreases
-
Measuring Resistance
-
By measuring the current, using an ammeter, and the potential difference, using a voltmeter, the resistance can be fround using the equation Resistance = Potential Difference / Current
