Sure, there is a process to evaluate the likelihood of what you have been told as being true. It looks like this:

- Number of witnesses
- Their integrity
- Their skill
- Purpose in supplying report
- Internal consistency of what is conveyed, and the circumstances of hearing it
- Whether there is any contrary testimony
