Cholera is caused by a germ that is in contaminated water most people would die from it
Small pox is a rash that turns into pus filled blisters all over the body
They got water from a river in the town, the water would make people ill as it was full of germs
The water was dirty as it had dead animal, urine and poo in it that came from the toilets that everyone on the street had used
They would be one house and every household would rent one room from it. If you didn't pay the rent you would be kicked out and would have to live on the street
The houses would be close together and there wouldn't be much room on the street and the front doors of each house would be cramped together
There would usually be a mum a dad and lots of children often around 10, this was so the families could make more money from each child
all the family would live in the same room.
There would be a toilet somewhere on the street that would be shred with the other households, the toilet would be shared with around 30-40 people
The toilets were a hole in a wooden box and it would be kept in a shed type room and the sewage would go down a pipe into the local river
There was lots of people I each household and all the houses were really close together, this made the streets very busy when people were outside
Lots of people would be taking up the same space in the same place because the streets were so small so there was lots of crowds
Typhoid lives in urine and poo, sometimes this contaminated water or food. It could also be carried by flys
There would be a back door because two houses would have the backs stuck to eachother
In the night if you needed the toilet you would do it in a bucket that would be kept under the bed and in the morning you would throw it out of the window or just tip it on the bus
Medical problems
The sewage from the toilet would end up in the river but people washed and drank the rivers so the river they drink and wash from would be dirty
