Types of Training
On the job training
Most common form os training for the unskilled and semi-skilled workers. Training given at the employee's normal place of work duding his/her normal working hours.

Methods
Internal Courses - is run inside the business using their own machinery and equipment. This means that the content of the course is designed specifically for that business. It's effective because employee is shown how to do the work and can practise it under supervision.
Work Shadowing - sometimes the new employee shadows an experienced employee. This means that they work alongside one anogher and the trainee learns from the experienced worker.
Role Play - a make believe situation is created and employees have to work out how they would solve the problem.
Off the job training
Training provided by a specialist and takes place outside the business, perhaps at a training centde, college or university. The training is paid by the business and may be on a day release basis of for a longer period of attendance at a full-time course for a term or longer.
Advantages
Since it is done by a specialist, it is of higher quality.

Employees can attend evening classes which means they do not miss their work and this reduces the cost.

Methods
Lectures - employees attend lectures, given info which can later apply in work.
Demonstrations - shows how tasks can be done. The trainee watches the expert but then must be given an opportunitu to practise the skill.

Disadvantages
Business

Employees have to be given time off work to undertake training and the work done in the business will be less efficient.
