REACTION OF SODIUM AND WATER - Coggle Diagram
REACTION OF SODIUM AND WATER
EQUPMENT
pices of sodium metal
water
current conductivity tester
tongs
test tube
knife
laboratory beaker
mineral oil
candle
phenolphtalein
PROCEDURE
We cut sodium, tested its elecro conductivity, added it to water, tested the hydrogen gas that its releasing and indicated the presence of hydroxide ions
OBSERVATIONS
sodium is a soft metal
sodium conducts elecrticity
sodium is less dense than water
2 Na(s) + 2 H2O(l) -> 2 NaOH(aq) + H2(g) is an exothermic reaction
phenolphtalein changes color into purple red and indicated the presence of hydroxide ions
CONCLUSION
Na is solluble in water
exothermic reaction
Na is a soft metal
Na conducts electricity
presence of OH ions after the reaction
4 Na(s) + O2(g) -> 2 Na2O(s)
