The district court deals with cases that aren't as severe as murder or rape but are still serious such as, stealing

Magistrate deals with all cases no matter how small, such as small civil disputes between two individuals where it usually just ends up with fines, not actually jail time.

Criminal law is where there is a case that is judged because a law was broken, this judged by either just the judge or a judge and a jury
The result of criminal law can either be fines or jail time depending on how severe the law that you broke was
Types of common laws
Precedent
Precedent is where the is no law ruling on what happens in a certain situation of a case, so the judge has to make a judgement on what the ruling is and make a new law which then has to be followed by any further cases with the same situation.
Statutory Interpretation
statutory Interpretation is where there is an existing law but it is unclear so they need to make an adjustment to fit the case.
Political Parties
Labor
The aims of labor is for them to charge taxes based on how much you earn that they can then invest back into society. They represent people with the minimum wage because they get charged less tax then people with higher wages

Liberal
The aim of liberal is to have a healthy economy with minimum tax and with the government involvement low.
Their core voters are people that have a higher wage and people that want less government involvement
The voting system

Absolute Majority
An absolute majority is what is needed for the election to end and for there to be a winner. An absolute majority is where you need 50%+1 of the votes.
To win a vote in the house of representatives by getting an absolute majority you need 76 votes because there is 150 total members
To win a vote in the senate by getting an absolute majority you need 39 votes because there is 76 members in total
