1. Formal structure
The assignments, topics and students’ roles are decided ahead of the group activities.
There are also specific procedures to follow and definite outcomes or conclusions to be drawn.
2. Informal structure
Spontaneously formed
Do not require preparation
Participative
All students actively involve in the group assignment
Non - Participative
One / two students choose to do the task.
Remaining members will help in discussion
Example:
Pair Work
Need to brainstorm an idea / examine and describe a picture, object and etc.
Peer Discussion
students themselves conduct the discussion.
Formal Tutorial Group
Allowed to choose their own members.
Project Group
Carry out tasks independently and will act more as a source of reference.

Summative Evaluation
Carried out at the end of a project or task.
The whole class is involved.
Each member is to see the end product and hear the views of all groups.
Its main objective is to assign grades to the pupils.
It indicates the degree to which the students have mastered the course content.
