It is not correct to say that we "descended" from monkeys. But the evolution of each species was different. We all probably come from a common trunk that, long ago, 70 million years ago, in the so-called Paleocene period, began to divide. The first hominoids, the biological family to which we belong, appeared during the Miocene, between 24 and 5 million years ago.
