Summative
Definition: Assessments that confirm student accomplishments and proficiency relative to specific learning outcomes and goals at the end of a unit or given period of time.

Portfolios: a compilation of academic work and other forms of educational evidence assembled at the end of a unit or period of time
Formative
Definition: Assessments that measure ongoing learning progress by students as a specific lesson or learning activity is being completed.
Peardeck: A google-slide add-on where students can be quickly assessed throughout a lesson over a topic that was just taught. Teachers can immediately see responses and quickly decide if anything needs to be retaught.
Fist to Five: On a scale of zero to five, students can hold up that amount of fingers to show how confident they are in the material that was just taught to them.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: An interim assessment an assessment that evaluates where students are in their learning progress and determines whether they are on track to perform well on future assessments
Rough Draft Essay: where students write a rough draft of a final essay that is to be written later. The teacher evaluates the student's progress in essay writing before they actually begin writing the final product
STAAR Test: standardized achievement test for the state of Texas to assess how well students did in their current grade level and how well they might do or might not do in the next grade level
Performance
Definition: a form of testing that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer from a pre-made list.
Drawing: instead of writing a summary of something that students just read or were taught, they can draw something that represents their understanding of main ideas and concepts
Teaching: a great way to tell if a student understands content is if they can actively teach that content to someone else
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are intended to identify the specific strengths and weaknesses of the performances of students. Teachers can use this assessment data to do things like developing IEP goals and adjust instruction to cater towards student needs.
Word List Reading: having students go through a list of "sight words" to see how many they can properly identify and read to see if there are any reading deficiencies present
Math Facts: having students answer a series of basic math facts as quickly as they can to observe and see if there are any mathematical deficiencies present
