Summative
Definition: These assessments are high-stakes assessments that determine the knowledge gained during a unit.
Research Paper: Students will be given a topic that they must then research and write an MLA formatted paper over including the proper sources.
Chapter Quiz: After finishing a chapter or set of chapters in our common reading, students will take a quiz to determine what information was gained from the reading.
Diagnostic
Definition: This is a form of pre-assessment to determine what information a student already has before a teacher decides what course of action to take when teaching the lesson.
EQ Answer sheet: After each lesson's Essential Question, students will answer it to the best of their abilities.
KWL Chart: Students create a chart to self determine what they do know, what they want to know, and what they have learned through the lesson.
Formative
Definition: These assessments serve as a tool for providing students with feedback as they are learning. It also allows the teacher to change their methods of instruction to better suit the students.
Questionnaire: A short 5 question sheet with no multiple choice or true/false. This allows for students to show their knowledge without the luck of guessing at a multiple choice question
Self Assessment: Students will write 3-4 sentences about how they feel they are doing on the current lessons. Students will allows provide examples to support their claim.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: These are assessments that happen at the end of the course or end of a 6 week period. They asses students knowledge and mastery to track determine if they are on track in the education.
STARR: This end of course exam is designed to evaluate the student's knowledge in specific subjects and determine if they are fit to move to the next grade level or if they should have remediation.
6 Week Benchmark test: This is a periodical exam that takes place at the end of a grading period to determine if students ha a grasp on the topic that was covered over said grading period.
Performance
Definition: Students show their knowledge through practical means as opposed to a test with multiple choice and open answer questions.
Presentations: These allow for students to explain their knowledge and also assist in growing the knowledge of the other students.
Debate: Students will each choose a point of argument based on the assigned reading, and they will respectfully discuss and argue their position.
