treatment
-
-
avoidance of exacerbating stimuli (allergens, irritants, ect)
Pharm: long acting drugs that decrease the inflammatory response and short acting bronchodilators for acute episodes
Cause
hyperactive allergen response: excessive WBC and IGe levels lead to increased tissue inflammation, mucous secretions, and tissue damage/remodeling which narrows the airways
bronchospasms cause airways to contract, usually in response to irritant/allergen but can also be caused by other factors such as emotion
narrowing of the bronchioles via several mechanisms (bronchospasm, mucus plug, pulmonary edema) leads to air trapping and inadequate ventilation
Diagnosis
-
pulmonary function tests FVE, FVC, tidal capacity, ect.
