VoIP/Internet Telephony:
Advantages:
- Integrated access lets businesses enjoyed superior communications features using existing legacy phone systems. This reduces the total cost of implementation.
- Ability to make calls anytime and anywhere if you have a good internet connection.
Disadvantages:
- Unstable internet connection may disrupt communications.
- Some VoIP services are susceptible to viruses, hacking and other forms of cybercrime.
INTERNET TELEPHONY: A powerful and economical communication too. A combination of the telephone network and data networks
- IP packets are sent across the network by routers.
- Voice signals can be prioritized using priority queues
- VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) turns analogue voice signals into digital data
- Three types of internet telephony (ATA, IP, Phones and PC to PC)
Websites:
Advantages:
- Sound/video/animation can be added
- Links to other websites/hyperlinks can be used
- Use of hotspots
- Can be seen by a global audience
Disadvantages:
- Websites can be hacked into and modified or viruses introduced.
- Risk of potential pharming.
- It is necessary for the potential customers to have a computer and internet connection
Multimedia presentations:
Advantages:
- Use of sound and animation/video effects which are more likely to grab the attention of the audience
- The presentation can be interactive
- They are more flexible
Disadvantages:
- More focused on accuracy than fluency
- Learners may get bored and unwilling to participate
Brochure:
Advantages:
- Shows a great deal of information compared to other printing options.
- Allows businesses or organisations to advertise using brochures
- Flexible to design according to the target audience, even though brochures are compact.
Diadvantages:
-- There is less space to convey the message or sell the product.
- Cost of printing is not ideal. It costs higher than other ways of marketing.
-- Producing brochures are not environmentally friendly although papers can be recycled. However, it only reaches one customer and adds up to the garbage dump.
Music score:
Advantages:
- Quicker to compose and share music
- Features include MIDI playback, so you can listen to your creations on the computer
- Compositions can be shared easily
Disadvantages:
- Music composition software can be expensive
- Makes piracy and plagiarism easier
- Some music is hard to represent using software
Flyers/leaflet:
Advantages:
- Easy to produce
- Inexpensive
- Provides quality feedback
- Multipurpose marketing tool
- Creative and attractive
Disadvantages:
- Short lifespan
- Ineffective at times
- Producing and distributing flyers is labour-intensive.
Poster:
Advantages:
- It is possible to reach a broader audience with posters
- Posters can be used several times and at different events
Disadvantages:
- Once a poster is printed it will be difficult to make any edits
- Preparing a poster is time-taking
- Posters generally require reduced content as well as getting straight to the point
E-mail:
Advantages:
- Emails are delivered extremely fast when compared to traditional post
- Emails can be sent 24 hours a day
- Emails can be sent to one personal or several people
Disadvantages:
- To receive an email, the recipient needs to access the internet
- Viruses can easily spread through email attachments.
- Easy for phishing and pharming to happen.
- A user can receive spam emails from subscription.
Instant Messaging:
Advantages:
- Instant messaging connects people regardless where they are located.
- In an organization, people can send and reply instant messages without getting all the related people in a physical meeting room
- • People on business trips can contact their colleagues inside the company through IM
Disadvantages:
- Ms take away the experience of face to face when they are speaking in person.
- People in workplaces may misused IMs to chat with their friends.
LIBRARY SYSTEM
A database based system in place within library to issue books and record return books. The system needs data on the Borrower and the Book.
Borrower data:
- Name and personal data
- Names of books currently borrowing
- Borrowing history
- Fines owned
Book data:
- Book title
- Author
- Publication date
- No of copies stocked
- No of copied available
Hardware required:Barcode data entry
--> Advantages:
- High accuracy input
- High speed input
--> Disadvantages:
- Can't stop theft of books
RFID Direct data entry
--> Advantages
- Can be used to deter theft
- Can be used for fully automatic processing
--> Disadvantages:
- Expensive to setup
Automated process:
- Automatic emailing/SMS messaging borrowers to remind them of due/overdue books.
- Online book availability and reservation system
- Automatic fine issuing
BOOKING SYSTEM
Computers are often used to book or reserve air flight, seats in the cinema, room in a hotel, tables in a restaurant etc. The system prevents double-booking, when an item is booked twice.
Booking process:
Step 1. The search screen

Step 3. Review, finalise and pay screen
Step 4. The booking confirmation screen
Advantages:
- Double booking shouldn't happen
- Immediate feedback on availability of seats/flights
- Customer can book online using an interactive website
- Customers can phone the booking office who can offer immediate advice availability
- Booking systems can be tied into email so customers can be informed of their booking
Disadvantages:
- The booking system will most likely be very expensive to install
- If the booking can be made over the phone, staff have to be trained to use the system
- Needs to be very reliable. If the system breaks down for some reason, a lot of business can be lost.
Social Networking:
Advantages:
- It enables everyone to connect no matter which country they belong to.
- Communication can be one-to-many instantly.
- Helps to stay in touch with friends and family
- Social networking sites are very useful to collect feedback and comments on various idea.
Disadvantages:
- Fake news and misleading information can go viral in no time on social media platforms.
- Social networking sites are linked to increased risk of mental health problems like depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
- The compulsion to use social media can make one social media addict.
Facsimile Transmission:
Advantages:
- It helps to send written information to any place within outside the country accurately.
- Fax provides a written record of the transmitted message and it can used as a document in a court law.
- Fax provides confirmation for the data or information received by the user
Disadvantages:
- Fax has less privacy as the transmitted data can be handled by anyone who is beside the fax machine.
- Fax may send hazy information due to a problem with the machine and therefore the purpose of the fastest delivery will be unsuccessful.
Blogs, wikis and tweets:
Advantages:
- Many providers offer free blog or wiki services. With advanced features, the charge is quite affordable
- Allows users sharing their articles, views and comments to build a network with similar interests
- It eases the frustration of navigation for the posted articles and discussion in relation to topics.
Disadvantages:
- It is time consuming and involves a lot of efforts to maintain the quality of the site quality and keep it on task.
- Users can be distracted easily
SCHOOL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Data a SMS requires:
- Pupil information
- staff information
- Timetable
- Pupil attainment
- Pupil behaviour
- Administration
- Financial records
- Exam entries
Advantages:
- No paper registers are needed so it's difficult for the information to be lost, and the information can be sent immediately
- Useful for easy location of students
- It can also be used to record achievements and sanctions
Disadvantages:
- If the system goes down, then no records are accessible unless you have backup paper copies
- Teachers may have to be trained to use the software.
- You need a license to use it, or you must pay a yearly fee which cannot be afford by some schools.
- Sometimes the software is more of a hindrance than a help
