Summary:
Away from the equator
The sun’s rays are also spread over a wide area, therefore less intense heating takes place, causing temperature to become low.
-
The lower the angle of the sun, the greater the distance through teh atmosphere the rays have to pass. More heat is absorbed by the atmosphere or reflected back into outer space, which results in less heat reaching the Earth’s surface
Near the equator
When the sun is overhead, it shines directly at the Earth’s surface striking it perpendicularly.
-
There is more intense heating over a smaller area of the Earth's surface, thus resulting in higher temperatures.
Tilt, curvature of the earth
Angle of incidence, high, close to 90 degree celcius
