Sidney Fay - The system of Alliances led by opposing countries led to tension between to sides, and that is what led to the war. However, the side which truly started it is unknown, therefore both are blamed, or in this case the nation as a whole.
Gerhard Hirchfeld - People tend to forget the views and intentions of every country involved. Once those are brought into view not only does it dilute the idea that It was of one country but it brings in the possibility it was a national issue.
