"Genetically Engineered Salmon is a Boon for Consumers and Sustainability"
Genetically engineered salmon allows us to support the growing need of salmon due to the exponential growth of world population
Is it moral for humans to manipulate living organisms based on our need?
According to natural selection it is a natural phenomenon. Therefore, it is okay for humans to manipulate organisms because they are at the top of the good chain.
To what extent is this true? How about animal abuse?
We have to consider the purpose of the person. Killing a cow for food is part of the food chain, but being physically violent with a dog is not part of the food chain.
How should we distinguish what is considered as part of the food chain?
Except for professional animal domestication on a farm, who domesticates animals for sale, we should illegalize physical abuse of animals.
How about plants? Do they have feelings?
We can never be sure whether plants have feelings. However, eating them is part of the food chain. Therefore, manipulation and consumption of plants can be justified.
We have to respect living organisms. Just because someone's stronger, doesn't mean that we can abuse such power.
Then, doesn't the whole domestication is a violate of the animal's right and human's abuse of power? To what extent should we give animals right?
People need a source of protein to function. We have no choice, but to domesticate animals to meet the need of society.
How do we decide which animal to domesticate? Is this fair? How about plants?
There are animals specific for domestication. For example, cows and pigs. We don't necessarily domesticate cats or monkeys.
How do we distinguish between what we can domesticate?
Keeping an animal as a pet is also a type of domestication. In order for humans to obtain protein, we need to kill plants and animals. It's the nature of nature.

People can buy salmon in a cheaper price with desired qualities.
What are the differences between wild salmon and genetically modified salmon?
Farmed salmon and wild salmon are not very different from its taste or quality. However, if they are farmed on sea, they may contaminate water and create diseases.
The AquaBouty will farm their fish on-land because they were able to genetically modify them to suit the environment. This has no environmental consequences.
How about the cost to maintain the on-land facilities?
Since the cost for buying fish feed can be saved for genetically modified salmon, we can use the cost saved to build on-land facilities --> implies the fact that GMO salmon might not necessarily be cheaper.
Although it may not be cheaper, we can still prevent environmental consequences like pollution and support the growing population.
GMO salmon would be a good choice for both consumers and sustainability!
