pathophysiology
chronic and recurrent obstruction of airflow in the pulmonary airways. Usually is progressive and is accompanied by inflammatory responses to noxious particles or gases
mechanisms of fibrosis of the bronchial walls hypertrophy of the submucosal glands, hypersecretion of mucous that obstruct the airways destruction of alveolar tissues decreasing surface area for gas exchange and loss of elastic fibers which the expiratory flow rate this increases air trapping the the alveoli. Air trapping predisposes the patient to airway collapse
