SJOGREN'S SYNDROME - Coggle Diagram
SJOGREN'S SYNDROME
Management
Eye moisturizing interventions
Prescribe medication for specific complications
Dry mouth interventions
Prescribed medication that suppress the immune system
Clinical Manifestation
Joint pain and swelling
Muscle pain
GI disease
Low white blood cell count
Diagnostic Criteria
Schrimer tear test- measures the dryness of the eyes
Sialogrma- checks function of salivary glands
Lip Biopsy- to detect the presence of inflammatory cells
Blood test- to check for presence of antibodies in Sjogren's syndrome
Pathophysiology
Dense lymphocytic infiltration
salivary glands
lachrymal glands
-destruction of glandular elements by cell-mediated mechanisms
-secretion of cytokines that activate pathways bearing the signature of type 1 and 2 interferons
-production of autoantibodies that interfere with muscarinic receptors
Chronic inflammation
Autoimmune
The body's own lymphocytes, attack and infiltrate exocrine glands.
Other glands affected:
-Gastrointestinal system
-Respiratory system
-Skin
Etiology
Genetic factors
Expression of certain MHC genes
Environmental factors
Virus that induce disease by "molecular mimicry"
