Building Circular cities

What are circular cities

What is your idea and the goal?

What research will be required in the given topic

A city that eliminates waste, keeps goods and their ingredients in use and regenerates natural systems.

A city which has a circular economy

How is it different from what is normally perceived

Decoupling the provision of new products and services from the availability of finite resources.

Design out waste and pollution and other negative externalities of economic activity that harm human health and natural systems. This includes toxic substances, greenhouse gas emissions, air, land and water pollution, and traffic congestion.

Maintaining the highest value of components and materials by designing them for reuse, rework and recycling.

Maintaining natural capital through the circulation of nutrients and creating the conditions for regeneration of, for example, soil.

Your originality in how and what you want to communicate

We want to create a documentary on what circular cities are and the main aspects of it and then create a model of the same. We also want to indirectly inform the public about the advantages of this.

How and in what form would you communicate your idea?

Indirect Goal: To spread awareness on the advantages of circular cities

We are going to create a model of a circular city and explain it in a video. We will use Sketchup to create the model of our city

We want to create an improved model of circular cities and educate people on the pros and cons of transitioning to circular cities

Primary Goal:To create a model of a circular city/self-sufficient city using the research done

We want to show people that living in circular city does not mean living a dull, boring and a simplistic life infact living in a circular city can be equally enjoyable while being eco friendly

How will we ensure sustainable water supplies?

How will we ensure that there is food for all? What sources can we use? How can we reuse the waste to our advantage?

How can we create sustainable travel methods? What modes of travel can be used?

What technology can we use for security?

What upcoming technology can be used to reduce air pollution or waste in general?

What is sustainable city planning?

Why do we need sustainable planning?

Where can solar panels be installed?

Can we create small scale hydro plants?

What are the different ways of bio-waste management

Where can we install wind farms?

How can we use biowaste to our advantage?

What organic fertilizers, insceticides and pesticides can we use?

What crops should we use?

Should we use farms, rooftop farming or both?

What are green buildings?

Should we use skyrise buildings or flat roof houses?

What are circular economies?

What all are required aspects of green buildings? What qualifies a building as a green building?

What are shared economies?

How do we ensure minimal water lost due to evaporation?

What methods of storage of water and food?

How does the circular economy work?

What are the limits to a sharing economy?

What are the limitations to recycling and reusing?

How do we ensure that we can have the industrial goods we want/need and keep the industries eco-friendly as well?

What are the different ways to recycle and reuse

Final Plan

The idea is to make a detailed plan about how energy will be managed in a circular city.

We will outline how electricity will be generated and how the waste product of generating electricity will be re used

We will touch upon solar farm, wind farms, micro hydro plants, Biomass energy, dyno gyms and other sources of generating electricity.

We will also touch upon where and how these technologies can be implemented in circular cities and how their efficiency can be maximized.

There are many places where we can place solar panels like on building, cars, rainwater harvesting equipment and over certain portions of rivers to minimize evaporation.

We will create wind farms and we will install micro wind farms on top of high-rise building as the wind speed at heights is greater than at ground.

We will burn plant biomass to create electricity and the waste ash generated from this will be used to create ash break which can be used for construction.

We can install micro hydro plant in river and canals to produce extra electricity.
