Direct speech

Indirect speech
: He asked me if I liked working in sales.
Reported requests
"Hey! Can you help us, please?" They asked me to help them.
Reported imperatives
Teacher: Everybody, stand up.
The teacher told the class to stand up.
Usage
Reported or indirect speech is usually used to talk about the past, so we normally change the tense of the words spoken. We use reporting verbs like 'say', 'tell', 'ask', and we may use the word 'that' to introduce the reported words. We use reported speech to report something that someone said.
