Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that can be used to evaluate a students learning needs, determine any misconceptions students may have, and identify strengths of the students. We can use this information to adjust our instruction as needed.
Pre-Assessment: Give students a short pre-assessment over a specific topic. Require students to show all the work they can.
Bell Ringers: Give students a bell ringer to test their knowledge. This gives us an idea of what students know and what misconceptions they may have.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is a process of gathering evidence of student learning to help get and provide feedback. Receiving this feedback can help adjust our instruction strategies to improve student achievement. Formative assessments should not be graded heavily, rather they should be used to focus on the learners ability.
Class Discussion: Students will participate in class discussion by answering questions, forming their own questions, and giving personal feedback to classmates.
Quiz: Students will take a short 3-4 questions quiz where they will show the steps needed to complete the given problems and circle their final answer.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to test students at the end of a big learning period, usually the end of a instructional unit. Summative assessments are important and usually graded heavily.
Semester Tests: Exams given at the end of a semester to evaluate the students learning over the entire semester.
Projects: Projects can be used to evaluate students learning at the end of a unit or at the end of the semester. The project can also be used as a portfolio for the student to display learning throughout the entire semester.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments is a type of evaluation that requires students perform a task, instead of doing multiple choice or short answer questions.
Make their own problem: Students will be provided with numbers. They will form a problem using those numbers over any concept they would like. Then students will share those problems with classmates and see if their classmates can solve their problem.
Conduct a survey: Students are to go out and interview students about a certain topic. They will then take their results and make a pie chart on a poster to display in the hall ways for every one to see the results.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark testing should be done periodically throughout the school year. These test are designed to see where the students are at and if they are meeting the grade level standards.
6 Weeks Test: These are given at the end of a 6 weeks period to assess the students knowledge and see where their knowledge and skills are at for that 6 weeks.
STAAR Tests: This is a test provided by the state to test the students on all the grade level content and see if they meet grade level standards.
