        had made its intentions crystal clear. IOI believed that Halliday never properly monetized his creation, and they wanted
        
        to remedy that. They would start charging a monthly fee for access to the simulation. They would plaster
        
        advertisements on every visible surface. User anonymity and free speech of the past.
  - - - My favorite message threads were those devoted to bashing the Sixers. “Sixers” was the derogatory nickname
        
        gunters had given to employees of Innovative Online Industries. IOI (pronounced eye-oh-eye) was a global
        
        communications conglomerate and the world’s largest Internet service provider. A large portion of IOI’s business
        
        centered around providing access to the OASIS and on selling goods and services inside it. For this reason, IOI had
        
        attempted several hostile takeovers of Gregarious Simulation Systems, all of which had failed. Now they were trying to
        
        seize control of GSS by exploiting a loophole in Halliday’s will.
- - - - There must have been some mistake. This can't be happening. Prim was one slip of
      - paper in thousands! Her chances of being chosen were so remote that I'd not even bothered to
      - worry about her. Hadn't I done everything? Taken the tesserae, refused to let her do the same?
      - One slip. One slip in thousands. The odds had been entirely in her favour. But it hadn't
      - mattered.

      - To the everlasting credit of the people of District 12, not one person claps. Not even the ones

        from the Hob, or knew my father, or have encountered Prim, whom no one can help loving. So
        
        instead of acknowledging applause, I stand there unmoving while they take part in the boldest
        
        form of dissent they can manage. Silence. Which says we do not agree. We do not condone. All
        
        of this is wrong.
- - - - ORDER: Regina George and her group, the Mean Girls, rule the school. They have control over everyone's opinion on anything. Other students treat these girls like celebrities.
