What they do
In constant communications with other heads of departments - Coordinate all heads of department to execute their vision

Are in control of the artistic and dramatic aspects of the film, eg: mise-en-scene, sound, music, performance, etc.

Production
The director is on set, guiding the talent's performance
directing camera - monitoring the shots, making desired changes to framing, or pace, movement etc.
Possibly the most subjective and creative part of any film director job description - depends on the individual style. It’s up to the director to discover how the actors like to work and adjust accordingly to bring out the best performance.
Post Production
Works with editors
The director may provide notes to editors and is often an active participant in this process. The director also works with the editor to produce a director’s cut. The director also has to consult with the producer before final cut is complete.

Directors will work with the composer to incorporate original score or soundtrack into the final cut
