Support the right of women to access abortions and other reproductive care services without undue interference
Democrats tend to support the imposition of pro-environmental policies, such as increasing the role of renewable resources in the energy mix and implementing a carbon tax on greenhouse gases. Some in the party have promoted the 'Green New Deal'
Democrats favour the expansion and strengthening of background checks necessary to purchase firearms. Additionally, Democrats favour the prohibition of ‘assault weapons’ and large capacity magazines.
Democrats tend to be in favour of a less restrictive immigration system - believing that undocumented immigrants should have a path to legal status - e.g. DACA (Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals)
Typically opposed to restrictive voting laws - such as requiring ID to vote. In favour of automatic voter registration
Tend to be sympathetic towards sanctuary cities - i.e. cities that, to some extent, restrict the ability of their law enforcement agencies to check people's immigration statuses or cooperate with ICE

Many in the party are opposed to the US's use of torture in facilities such as Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib - though this position became more contended after Obama's election
The Democratic platform calls for the reduction of incarceration rates, limits on sentencing for children, removal of SROs, and increased funding for 'community policing
Economic issues
Democrats believe that wealthier Americans should pay more tax and that companies who work unethically or move jobs abroad should have tax breaks removed. They also oppose tax breaks for companies that cause pollution such as oil companies
Democrats call for the introduction of a federal minimum wage of $15/hr, to be indexed against inflation
Democrats, especially those on the left of the party, belieive that if Wall Street were to crash again, the state should not bail them out
The bulk of the Democratic party are in favour of free trade agreements such as NAFTA and the TPP - though this position is opposed by some on the left
Social welfare
Democrats believe that all people should be able to access healthcare, with government supporting this in the form of Obamacare, and that the state should have a role in regulating healthcare
On the left of the party, many call for M4A (Medicare for All) which would provide all Americans with some form of state run healthcare (somewhat akin to the NHS)
In the centre and right of the party, calls tend to be for the state to provide or subsidise healthcare for those who are unable to afford it - for example, Obamacare expanded medicare (old and/or disabled people) and medicaid (those earning under a certain limit) and mandated insurers to cover pre-existing conditions
Democrats believe university education should be free or debt free. Additionally, Democrats favour the national standardisation of education to promote equality.
Foreign policy
The party, on the whole supports the 'two state solution' with regards to Israel and Palestine
Tends to favour working in tandem with other nations and supranational organisations, such as the UN
