Differences/Similarities between Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes
By: Derek Hartranft
Eukaryotes
DNA in Nucleus
Some are unicellular
Usually Contains Ribosomes
Membrane-Bound Organelles
Has a Nucleus
Animals, Humans, and Fungi are all examples of Eukaryotes
All Multicellular creatures are Eukaryotes
A Eukaryote is an organism that is made up of cells that have DNA in their nucleus.
Inside of animals, humans, and plants.
Prokaryotes
Usually organisms like bacteria or mold-like organisms
Always Contains organelles called ribosomes that have no membrane
Has hairlke structures called flagella that help them move
Includes all bacteria and archaea
Always smaller than eukaryotes
No Nucleus
DNA in Cytoplasm
A prokaryote is a single celled organism that does not have a nucleus or membrane bound organelles.
Inside of bacteria and other single-celled organisms.
Similarities
Both contain cytoplasm, cell membranes, and organelles
Both are active inside of living things
Both may contain ribosomes
Differences
Prokaryotes do not have a nucleus, membrane bound organelles, or DNA in the nucleus, while Eukaryotes have all of the above.
Prokaryotes are usually bacteria while Eukaryotes are usually living things like plants or animals
Prokaryotes are unicellular, while Eukaryotes can be unicellular or multicellular
