Representation of Women in the Media

Most common roles for women are damsels in distress or minor roles
They usually get less important roles
Women still don't have equal roles when it comes to film roles
Music
In Music, there is a
harsher
reality when it comes to the representation of women because they especially in the 1950-60s, women were more objectified and this was portrayed in music.
'Young Girl' by Gary Puckett was released in 1968 and it includes phrases like 'You're much too young', 'You are a baby in disguise' and 'That come on look is in your eyes' - this makes women seem like objects and he is blaming her for being too young.
However, Run the World (girls) by Beyonce was released in 2011 and this is about empowering women and making them feel like they have a little bit more power in order to equal with men. This song has phrases such as 'Please accept my shine' and 'Strong enough to bare the children' - this empowers the amazing things which women can do.
Music has been around for centuries and over these centuries, a lot of changed to do with women's rights and this is evident in the vast amount of ideas about women in music.
Typically, we see more gendered terms in music from 2000 prior however they are a few songs which break this such as Blurred Lines in 2013 - 'But you're a good girl, the way you grab me' and Talk Dirty in 2011 - 'Got her saved in my phone as Big Booty'.
