past simple, afirmative, negative and question
The "simple past" is used to talk about an action that ended earlier than the current one. The duration is not relevant. The time in which the action is situated can be the recent past or the distant past.

For the negative and interrogative forms of the "simple past" of the verb "do" as an ordinary verb, "do" is used as an auxiliary, e.g. We didn't do our homework last night.

Have to is a semi-modal verb that is used very frequently in English to express obligation. We say semi-modal because it does not follow the rules of modal verbs
