Chem- Ch12- The periodic table
The periodic table- a table used to classify and identify the element and its properties
trend- a gradual change
valence electrons- outer shell electrons
halides- an ionic compounds of halogens and metals
salt- when a more receive metal replaces hydrogen in an acid and combines with a negative ion
duplet rule- The atom consists of only one shell with 2 electrons in it.
octet rule- the atom has more than one shell with 8 electrons in its outermost shell
alloy- a mixture of a bit of substance mixed with a metal to improve its properties
oxidation state- the no. of electrons a metal atom loses to form compound
Reactivity
Grp 7
DENSITY increases, MELTING POINT increases, REACTIVITY decreases
Grp 8
DENSITY increases, MELTING POINT increases
Grp 1
DENSITY increases, MELTING POINT decreases, REACTIVITY increases
valency- the no. of electrons an atom of an element loses, gains or shares to form a compound.
amphoteric- can be both acidic and basic in a reaction (aluminium)
metalloid- an tellement with metal and non-metal properties
semi-conductor- a metalloid that conducts electricity
