It is presumptuous to purport to know the details of this intr-trinitarian pact

5 Problems
Warning about apostasy given to those who are neither saved nor unsaved do not make any sense
The members of this group are identified by the biblical authors, but we are concerned with the perseverance of the saints
Even Calvin rejected this approach to Heb. 10, insisting instead upon evanescent grace
Even if accepted, Arminius and Wesley thought there were benefits for covenant members, but also affirmed apostasy
Credo Calvinist could not accept this
If Christ righteousness is imputed and God's promises are unconditional then the elect are unconditionally secure
If the elect is limited to those who persevere, then there are some who are regenerate without being elect
The grace which enables us to believe is conjoined to God's initiation to save all men in Christ
Then doesn't everyone come to faith? God's work is persuasive and not effectual
Salvation is conditioned on faith in Christ, condemnation results from rejecting Christ
Assurance Passages
belief is usually in the present participle, connoting a continual state of belief
The Spiritual condition is irreversible
He that believes shall not come into condemnation (5:24), He that believes not shall not see life (John 3:36)
1: Re: If the spiritual condition is necessarily reversible then the decision to apostatize is reversible. But, if this decision is not reversible then it is one example of how some free decisions cannot be reversed. The only question is whether you decision to believe and God's decision to save can be reversed.
In John 10 the context tells us that it is the ones who are hearing and following him that cannot be plucked out his hand
Assurance
There is assurance for those in Christ, but assurance does not entail effectual perseverance
Romans 8
This applies to those who are united with Christ
The Golden Chain is a guarantee that the Children of God cannot be separated from the love of God
God will continue his work
That God will continue his work in us should lead to us into thanksgiving, but we are also expected to continue in faith
Logical Argument for Eternal Security
The argument from the body metaphor: presupposes that we complete the body of Christ rather than the other way around
The argument from being named a child; presupposes that the familial relationship cannot be reversed
The argument from the new birth: those who apostasize do not become unborn, they die.
The argument from the promise of eternal life: eternal life is eternal union not perpetual existence, therefore the promise applies to those who are believing
The Case for Apostasy
Logical Arguments
Argument from Personhood; If our personhood is in tact then the ability to apostatize remains available
Biblical Arguments
