USING COMPUTERS FOR PROJECTS
THE OPERATING SYSTEM
How does an operating system open a program
When your document is finished, click on the SAVE icon.
When we close the word processor, the operting system erases our document from the RAM. This frees up memory space for other applications
The operating system locates the application, which is stored in the computer´s hard drive
RAM ( Random Access Memory
The word processor is now active. Transmits information from the mouse and keyboard, and this information goes to the RAM. where it´s stored
When click PRINT icon, the word proccesor sends a command to the operating system, which translates your document into a format that the printer can undertand and use
What tasks does an operting system perform?
Types of software
Applications
Word processors
Speadsheets
Presentation programs
Data Bases
Art Programs
Antivirus programs
Programming languages
( to create new programs and applications
Operating system
Windows
Functions of an operting system
Managing memory and information storgage (The opperating system makes memory space avaliable for different applications)
Creating a convenient user interface and workspace (Operating systems help users communicate more easly with computers)
Managing the microprocessor ( The operating system tells the microprocesor, which tasks must be performed)
Facititating communication between applications and peripheral devices:
COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE
(Hardware and Software)
Information storage ( Takes place in storage devices)
Peripheral devices (are used for INPUT and OUTPUT)
Information Processing ( CPU) contains MEMORY and MICROPRCESSORS
The motherboard and peripheral connections
( MOTHERBOARD)
IDE/ ATA connectors and SATA connectors ( link the hard drive, CD and DVD)
Chipset (is a group of integrated circuits that control the follow of information int the motherboard
Expansion slots ( allows us to add new components
Input/ output slots
Connecting external devices
The PHYSICAL CONNECTION
Using special connectors on the motherboard, like the hard drive and the DVD drive
Using external side ports
Using one of the expansion slots, especially for sound and graphic cards
The instyallation of special CONTROL PROGRAMS called drivers (which let the device commnunicate with the operating system)
