getting them access to IT resources so that they can observe and get involved, especially in ED as most things are on computer system.
Letting them become involved in their role and encourage them to do tasks when they feel confident to do so. This will develop there skills as a student nurse and a good way of learning.
An example is encouraging them to do observations and escalating when need to.
Documenting in patients notes. Observing and under supervision giving out medication.

Following policies and procedures, adhering to the NMC code of conduct.
Building up a good relationship with their mentor so that they do not feel pressured and know their limitations and if do feel they are out of depth can come and speak in confidence to their mentor and asked advice.

Learning from previous experiences and expanding their knowledge. Each place of work has a pattern for certain conditions so could focus on them and develop their knowledge and understanding in more depth.
Encourage students to read up on things that they feel is relevant to the area they are working in and put them into practice. Expanding on their current knowledge and experiences.
Setting a goal for them and what they want to achieve. Being realistic with it and how they can develop on this so that they can take the knowledge to their next placements. Asking them what they want to learn and take away from this experience so that can focus on this, this will encourage them to develop their knowledge as they are interested in it.
