      - The weekly London Life started the war larger than A4 but was cut down to a smaller format in 1941. In October that year the cover carried a warning that paper controls meant it had to reduce further to a 'magazine size', in this case pocket size, and go fortnightly.
    - - War forced us into practical services for our readers. It was right up our street really, and Woman was built on triumph over adversity. We didn't carry articles on celebrities - they simply aggravated readers. Women were shown in uniform or working on the land; generals and admirals dominated the men's monthlies. The diktats of war even influenced the typefaces : 'The day came when we had to use smaller type and the price of the magazine had to rise.

        Make Do and Mend was a pamphlet issued by the British Ministry of Information in the midst of WWII.
        
        It was intended to provide housewives with useful tips on how to be both frugal and stylish in times of harsh rationing.

        This was because due to the war, shipping and food trades were restricted across the countries.
        
        Countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany started these campaigns to supplement their rations and avoid food shortage.
        
        Many governments encouraged their people to create their own farms and to grow their own food.
        
        Propaganda posters were made to encourage civilians and boost morale as farmers were rewarded.

        It embodies the “stiff upper lip” of the British people in standing up to Hitler in the Second World War
        
        Evocative of the Victorian belief in British stoicism – the "stiff upper lip", self-discipline, fortitude, and remaining calm in adversity.
        
        Keep Calm and Carry On was a propaganda poster created by the government to boost their morale in preparation for the war in 1939.
        
        Each poster showed the slogan under a crown logo of the Tudor Crown which represented the UK.
