Present
Describe things that are happening right now or that are continuous.
Simple present
When an action is happening right now or regularly.
Subject+verb
I play tenis
Present perfect continuous
Action started in the past and has continued up to the present moment.
Subject+have/has+been+verb-ing
I have been playing tenis
Present perfect
Action or state that occurred at an indefinite time in the past.
Subject+have/has+past participle
I have played tenis
Present continuous
Action or condition that is happening now and may continue into the future as a plan.

Past
Describe things that have already happened.
Simple past
Things that happened or existed before now.
Subject+verb in past
I played tenis
Past continuous
Continuing action or state that was happening at some point in the past. Something was happening in the past when another action interrupted it.

Past perfect
Actions that were completed before some point in the past.
Subject+had+past participle

Past perfect continuous
An action that started in the past, continued up until another time in the past.

Describe things that have yet to happen.
Future perfect
Actions that will be completed before some point in the future.

Future perfect continuous
Describes actions that will continue up until a point in the future.

Simple future
Action that will begin and end in the future
Subject+will+verb subject+to be+going to+verb

Future continuous
When an action is expected to happen in the future and be completed.
