Protective Factors e.g. being physically active, eating well
Definition: things people do to promote health/prevent illness
OTs and Self-Care
Definition: All tasks necessary ensure health/wellbeing and survival in society
examples:
Sleeping
sexual expression
shopping for food/clothes
money management ,meal prep. , travel. mobility
eating, toileting, personal hygiene (+menstrual care), medication management, grooming and dressing
Terminology for Self-Care (Activities of Daily living/ADL)
Care of Home environment- Domestic ADL= DADL
Person interacting with their environment- Instrumental ADL= IADL
Personal care of body- Personal ADL=PADL
Self-Maintenance- everything from grooming, socialising& communication to emergency response + sexual expression
Functional Mobility
Self-care= complex (what people do/don't + why and How they do it
when it is no longer a routine: when difficulties arise
