Formative
Definition: This is the process of gathering evidence
of student learning and providing feedback. This also helps teachers to adjust instruction to help learning.
Exit Tickets: These help the teacher understand what the students learned from the material in that day or the material from a few days. It is very informal and is used to see what students understand.
Pre test: This is given before the start of a unit or topic to see what students know already before they learn.
Summative
Definition: The goal of this assessment is to
evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit. They have a high point value.

Diagnostic
Definition: Is a form of pre-assessment
where teachers can evaluate students strengths,
weaknesses, knowledge and skills before instruction.

Phonics Inventory: This is a computer based test of letter recognition, word reading efficiency etc.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Educators use to evaluate where students are in their learning progress and determine whether they are on track.
STAAR: This is the stat of Texas assessment of academic readiness. This assess’s a students achievements and knowledge learned in the grade level.
Fixed Assessments: This is a test that every test taker receives the same questions and can be delivered on a computer.
Performance
Definition: This measures students ability to apply
the skills and knowledge learned from a unit or units of study. This requires students to preform a task and is not in the form of answering questions.
Presentations: This is used at the end of a unit and students complete a task over a given topic to show their understanding.
