Grade 4-Life Science-Interdependency and Ecosystems-Pre Assessment and Strategies for Differentiation
Pre Assessment
Kahoot- Students will complete a quick Kahoot! quiz about Ecosystems Kahoot
KWL: Using the KWL strategy, the student will write what he/she knows. In the second column they will write they want to know about ecosystems and at the end of the lesson, students write what they have learned.
Think, Pair and Share: Think/ Pair/ Share -Students will participate in a Think/Pair/Share exercise where they work with a partner, write down what they know about the topic and share what they came up with with the rest of the class.
Post Assessment Group 3
Group3: The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic. Three of these students are struggling with language and are at different reading levels. The other two students have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs.

Students will be assigned to Mobymax to complete Lesson. They will watch the following video Ecosystem-which will support my ELL and Special Needs Ecosystem-ELL and Special Needs

Post Assessment
Group 2
Group 2: The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills. These students have adequate knowledge about the topic and are in the ball park so to speak based on the information and ideas they had shared.
Assessment and tracking progress using Kahoot
Post Assesment Group 1
Group 1: The 5 students who were the most knowledgeable, shared relevant information about the topic and answered the most difficult questions of the pre-assessment (kahoot!) correctly. These students excelled in the pre-assessment activities and require more of a challenge.
Activity 1: They will research further and create a poster of ecosystems. The poster should show interdependency of ecosystems and their 2 chosen Biomes. Students will read about biomes, Meso ecosystems, and Microecosystem to deepen their knowledge before starting their project.
Activity 2: students will create their own ecosystem and included the characteristics of ecosystems such as needing to have both living and nonliving factors, populations, communities, and so on. Students will determine the food chains. It will definitely require some creative thinking and problem solving on their part. The goal is to provide enough information to group 2 and group 3 which could and increase their participation once they join the group 1 in heterogenous pairing.
Assessment and tracking progress: Observation, guiding questions, Final product of the project

Post Assessment Group 4
-
Use peer support and assign collaborative activities which allows students to learn from their peers.

Modify instructions for this group: I would reteach prerequisites for the lesson and build on it for the new content. This process would include revisiting lesson, instruction and Guiding Questions
