Bismark Appointed
- Prussian assembly parliament was made up of the wealthy middle class who wanted society to be less militaristic. This went against king Wilhelm the 1st’s vision of expanding the army. However this meant for a bigger defense budget and higher taxes. The parliament wanted to establish that they, not the king, held ultimate political power. They also wanted to ensure that the army was responsible to Prussia’s representatives.
- The parliaments rejected the military budget and so Wilhelm called on Bismarck to head a new ministry to defy the parliament.
- Bismark was a master of politics and desired power. He declared that the government would rule without the consent of the parliament and eventually reorganized the army.
Revolutions of 1848
During the revolutions of 1848, the bourgeoisie and other workers were fighting against the old order. Women loaded weapons and tended to the injured while children carried messages from barricade to barricade. Eventually, they demolished the consevatove order after the downfall of Napoleon in 1815. However, territorial conflicts caused tension among ethnic minorities who demanded independent rights. Conservatives were able to sway these minorities into their favor and successfully destroyed liberal rights everywhere.
French Revolution(1789)
