Renewable Energy Scources - Coggle Diagram
Renewable Energy Scources
Definition: A renewable resource is one that can be used repeatedly and does not run out because it is naturally replaced
Solar Energy
Definition: Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy.
Advantages:
1.Renewable Energy Source
2.Low Maintenance Costs
3.Reduces Electricity Bills
It is sustainable
Disadvantages:
1.Weather Dependent
2.Solar Energy Storage is Expensive
3.Uses a Lot of Space
4.Toxic materials and hazardous products used during the manufacturing process of some solar products.
Hydro Power
Hydro Power: using the force of water flowing in streams and rivers to produce mechanical energy
Advantages:
Hydroelectric energy is renewable
Generating electricity with hydro energy is not polluting itself.
Hydroelectricity is very reliable energy.
Compared to among others fossil fuels and nuclear energy, hydroelectricity is much safer.
Disadvantages:
The environmental consequences of hydropower are related to interventions in nature due to damming of water, changed water flow and the construction of roads and power lines.
Building power plants in general is expensive.
Electricity generation and energy prices are related to how much water is available. A drought could affect this.
There are limited reservoirs.
Geothermal Power
Definition: Heat that is stored inside the earth is transformed into electrical energy by geothermal power plants
Advantages:
Environmentally friendly compared to gas or oil furnaces.
Not a significant source of pollution
Suitable for the smallest of houses to the largest commercial spaces.
Very efficient (300- 500%)
Disadvantages:
High upfront costs with implementing geothermal energy.
Expensive
Risk of triggering earthquakes.
4.Gases are released into the atmosphere during digging.
Wind Energy
Definition: Energy obtained from harnessing the wind with windmills or wind turbines.
Advantages:
Clean & Environment friendly
Wind energy is completely free
It's Renewable and Sustainable
Wind turbines can be built on existing farms or ranches
Disadvantages:
1.Wind energy it is not constant
2.Wind Turbines Are Expensive
3.Pose a Threat to Wildlife
4Create Visual Pollution
Tidal Energy
Definition: Tidal energy is a renewable energy powered by the natural rise and fall of ocean tides and currents
Advantages:
Environment-friendly
A highly predictable energy source
High energy density
Operational and maintenance costs are low
Disadvantages:
High tidal power plant construction costs
Negative influence on marine life forms
Location limits
The variable intensity of sea waves
Biofuel
Definition: Biofuels are burnt to release energy that can be used to power things.
Advantages:
They produce less carbon whilst burnt.
It's an efficient Fuel
Is less expensive than fossil fuels
Reduce Dependence on Foreign Oil
Disadvantages:
It requires a lot of land
Still contributes to global warming
Needs a lot of labour
Not a lot of suitable land
