Temperate Forests - Coggle Diagram
Temperate Forests
Location
-
-
The deciduous forest are found around the Northern hemisphere, including eastern Asia and wester Europe - these forests have moist, warm summers and frosty winter
-
The evergreen forests are found in New Zealand, eastern Australia, southern China, Korea and Japan - they have mild temperature and nearly frost-free winters
Fauna
Australia's temperate forests, they contain koalas, and opossums - these cannot be found anywhere else in the world
Black bears from North American forests are well adapted: they have a heavy coat, and they build up a five-inch layer of fat before hibernating. They have long claws to climb trees and are omnivores (can eat plants and animals)
The types of fauna in Temperate forests depend on where they are in the world as man species are native to certain places
There are a lot of squirrels in the northern hemisphere - other bird species in abundance include: owls and pigeons. In Britain, animal species include: foxes, mice, deer and rabbits
In this environment, animals must learn to adapt with the cold winters and warmer summer. To do this, some migrate and some hibernate
Climate
They have four seasons - all the same length: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Summers are warm and winters are mild
These forest have the second highest rainfall after tropical rainforests - this is because of their location
Because of the cloud cover, the temperature is mostly above freezing - rain fall throughout the year
Flora
The trees in these forest have a growing seasons of about 6-8 months - they grow about 50% each year
The forest floor is littered with thorns, bracken, grass and brambles
There are many trees in the canopy - under the canopy is a layer called the understory - trees and shrubs grow here
