- Lacrosse: Lacrosse, which was originally an aboriginal game, was adopted by the French settlers in the mid-1800's, who called it "La Crosse", because of the vaguely crucifix shape the playing sticks had. Two teams of 10 try to score on the other team's net, and it can be quite rough. There is a less violent version of the game called "Intercross", that is popular among kids.
The main association called National Lacrosse League (NLL) was founded in 1867, which includes 9 teams, has only 4 Canadian teams.
