Vancouver: Vancouver is a major city in western Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. It is also one of Canada's densest, most ethically diverse cities. Vancouver is significant in relation to urbanization because there was a prominent example of gentrification in Vancouver. Since the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver was experiencing hardships, the city tried to revitalize the area in the 1960’s. However, due to the closing of Woodward's department store, the area developed a high unemployment rate, poverty, homelessness, crime, and drug use. Also, low-income small businesses like family-friendly restaurants were diminished, and low-income housing was severely depleted. This caused many people to lose their homes, and created mass amounts of poverty.
