Imports
Things that one country gets from another country. Imports can be goods, services, capital investments etc.
Container ship
A very large ship that gets loaded with shipping containers to transport goods and or any items from one place to another.

Exports
Things that one country sells to another country. Exports can be goods, services money/capital investments.
Choke point
This is a place that has a lot of boat traffic that is along two navigable passes. Some examples are the panama canal or the Suez canal.

Specialization
This is when a country or place with specialize in making a certain thing and usually do it better than any other place.

Trade
When a good or service is Exchanged for another good or service. There is also the buying and selling of goods and services which is a form of trade.

Fair Trade
Fair trade is an arrangement that helps farmer and people supplying the commodities to make other things. With fair trade comes the fair trade minimum where the selling price of certain commodities won't drop below a certain amount. This helps farmers make more money and makes sure they don't go out of business if the price of their commidity is decreasing.
Commodity
A raw material that can be bought or sold. Example are coffe or chocolate. We talked about this during our chocolate activity.

Mexico is one of the main countries the U.S. trades with. This the third most country the U.S. imports from. Mexico is also the second most country the U.S. exports to.
Scarcity
A shortage of something or not having much of it. In trades its when a country doesn't have something and they have to trade to get it.
Canada
Canada is another one of the main countries the U.S. trades with. Canada is the country the U.S. imports the second most amount of things from. Canada is the country the U.S. exports the most to
Services
A service is where no physical goods are transferred. Examples in trade are legal services or banking services
China
China is one of the main countrys the U.S. trades with. The U.S. also imports more from China than any other country. China is also country the U.S. exports the third most to.
Comparative advantage
This is when a place specializes in something they have an advantage at doing or making and they trade it.
Urbanization
Vancouver
In the lower eastside of Vancouver there were many industrial buildings and it was a working class area. Then an import part of the community Woodward's department store closed and the area began having a lot of crime and poverty. Then the city wanted to try and make the place good again to attract more tourist for the upcoming Olympics and they gentrophied the area.

Primate city
A city that is much larger than another city in the country. They also hold most of the political power in that state or country.
Infastructure
It is the physical things that allow a city to function and the way a city or town is organized. Buildings, roads, bridges, electrical systems are all infrastructure.

Favela
A slum in Brazil that has been neglected by the government and has very little infrastructure and urban planning.

Rural
The opposite of Urban. An area where people live farther away from each other. There are generally less overall people in a rural area. In recent times less and less people are living in rural areas.
Brain Drain
When usually a rural place doesn’t have many educated people because they have all moved away to try and make a better life or to a place that utilizes their educated skills.
Suburban
An area outside of a city but still near.Suburbs are mainly peoples homes and there is a lower population density than neighborhoods inside the city.

An area that is a city or place with a lot of people living close to each other. It is also a place with economic, political and cultural change. It is also a place where many people move to.

Syria
Right now there is a Syrian refugee crisis and there are 5.6 refugees and another 6.2 IDPs. Syria is also the country which has the most refugees.
Documented Immigrant
An immigrant who has been given permission from the government to come to the country and have documents to show this is true.
Refugee
A person who has been forced out of their country. This could be due to war, natural disasters, persecution and they cant return home safely so they have to find a new place.
Undocumented Immigrant
An immigrant who has not been given permission to enter the country and has no documents allowing them to be in the country.
UNHRC
United Nations Refugee Agency. It is an international organization responsible for protection of refugees all across the world.
