Urbanization
Megacity
A megacity is a city that houses more than 10 million people. These cities are important because they create jobs for many and spark economic growth within the country.
Infrastructure
Infastructure is the system of basic things that are needed for a city to operate correctly. Infrastructure is important because it creates jobs, allows for fast transportation, and for goods and services to be moved conveniently.
Primate city
A primate city is a city that is the biggest in a country and has twice the amount of total population to the 2nd largest city. These cities are important because they can be used as social and economic hubs as well as the start of large economic growth.
Per capita
Per Capita is the more fancy way of saying "per person". This term can be used when stating the average salary a person makes in a country. You would say the imcome per capita of the U.S is $54,000.
Creative Destruction
Creative destruction is the process in which older businesses become replaced by new, more relevant businesses. Creative destruction can be a source of economic expansion because of the significant number of new jobs and technologies created from the new industries.
Gentrification
Gentrification is when a government changes the character of a neighborhood by upgrading housing, infrastructure, etc. It is significant because many low-income people are affected negatively as a result of this because of the higher cost of housing.
Favela
A favela is a type of Brazilian slum which is almost completely neglected by the government. As a result, many people suffer from drug abuse and gang violence. The favelas are also a great example of an urban area that lacks urban planning.
Rural
A rural area has very few buildings and far away from civilization. Rural areas are sometimes poor and have poor living conditions. Rural areas usually generate the food everyone eats, and the energy everyone uses. It was only until 2007 that more people were living in urban areas rather than rural areas.
Suburban
A suburban area is a group of residential areas near a city or an urban location. These suburban areas are important because it is where the majority of people live it makes it easier for people to have a close commute to work in the city while living at a more reasonable price rather than living directly in a city.
Services
Services can be a pull factor for people moving from rural to an urban areas. These services can make one's life easier and more convenient.
Urban
An urban area is somewhere that is similar to a city. If planned correctly, urban areas can create jobs, spark economic growth, and improve people's lives in general.

Capital investment is when a country invests in their cities by modernizing it, therefore creating new jobs and spiking economic growth.
Globalization and trade
Balance of trade
The balance of trade is the balance a country chooses to have between how much they import and how much they export. If a country chooses to export more than they import, then they will eventually be in debt because they are spending more than they are earning.
Choke point
A choke point is a very big shortcut that usually cuts through a large land mass. Countries can make lots of money off of these choke points because its saves ships lots of time by going through them.
Commodity
A commodity is a basic item that can be used to form items. Most commodities are grown from the earth.Countries who net most of their income from commodities such as the Ivory Coast often get a very small percentage of the actual profit made from selling the final product.
Container ship
Container ships are cargo ships that carry all of their load in truck-size containers, in a technique called containerization.
Exports
An export in international trade is a good or service produced in one country that is sold into another country. Countries often export items that they have an abundant amount of. Countries who exported recieve money as a trade.
Fair trade
Fair trade is a system designed to help producers in developing countries achieve sustainable income regardless of the market price that the country has for the commodity. Items that are certified fair trade are usually more expensive then those not certified fair trade.
Global supply chain
The global supply chain is the system in which countries that have an abundant amount of an item or commodity, trades with countries that do not have that items or have a scarcity of it.
Goods
Goods are items that people want that usually are made from processed commodities. These items are everywhere as everything bought and sold are officially goods.
Imports
Imports are foreign goods and services bought by the government from another country. Countries often import things that they can't obtain in their own country.
Scarcity
Scarcity is the limited availability of a commodity, which may be needed in other counties or in your own country.
Specialization
Specialization is the tendency countries have to specialize in creating or growing something based on the envioronment, number of people in the workforce, etc.
Trade
Trade involves the transfer of goods or services from one country to another, in exchange for money. Trade is the way that countries can buy things they can not produce themselves and sell things that they have more than enough of.
China
China is the worlds largest exporter. It is east to find a thing that has been made in China. China specialzes in creating goods generally. This is probably because of its large workforce, as China is the world's most popular country.
Comparative advantage
Comparitive advantage is the advantage some countries have over others in that they can produce the same commodity, or good for a cheaper cost than another country. This is usually because of the minimum pay law a country has and the environment a counrty is in.
Canada
Canada is one of the U.S's biggest trading partners. This is because it is cheaper to ship items to and from Canada because they are very close

Asylum
An asylum is a grant given to someone fleeing to stay in their country. These asylums are significant because they have the power to change people's live both negatively, when someone is rejected and positively when someone is accepted.
Immigrant
An immigrant is a person who has left their country in order to live permanently in another country. Immigrants are split into 2 categories documented, and undoccumented immmigrants. Immigrants are important because they transfer manpower, and intelligence to and from different countries.
Brain Drain
Brain drain is a problem in a country when the most intelligent people leave the country because they moved to another one for employment, or other reasons. This is significant because it cycles out intelligent people throughout different countries.
Mexico
Mexico is a country where many immigrants to the United States come from. Although there are many documented immigrants, some of them are undocumented because they snuck across the border. Some people think that these immigrants are harmful, as they are drug traffickers and members of organized crime. Others think these people will benefit our economy, as they will become part of the workforce.
Documented Immigrant
Documented immigrants are foreigners who are legally allowed to enter the United States. These people are significant because a lot of these people create successful businesses.
Refugee
A refugee is a person fleeing their country because they fear something will happen to them because of their race, religion, gender, etc. Refugees have many rights that come with them. For example, refugees have the right to not get sent back to the place they fled. These refugees are significant because millions of people are considered to be a refugee, proving the dangers, and imperfections the world has.
Syria
Syria is where most refugees come from as a result of the wars that are going on in the area. About 5.6 million Syrians are refugees. These people often migrate to other countries in order to find a safer place to go than home, where there is a high risk of getting killed or abducted.

Carrying capacity
The carrying capacity is the capacity at whicg a region can support people without a problem. For example, some places of the world may have a lower carrying capacity because of a low amount of water, electricity, etc.
Undocumented Immigrant
Undocumented immigrants are foreigners who are illegally entering the United States. They are significant because many people assume them to be criminals and drug dealers even though the U.S may be throwing away some brilliant minds that could do much good for the country.
UNHRC
The UNHRC is an organization created by the U.S to protect refugees worldwide. It is an important organization that saves thousands of lives and helps many people relocate to safer countries.
Arab Spring
The Arab spring was a series of protests, uprisings, and armed-rebellion held against the Arab government during the 2010s. This event questioned the safety of many people and therefore forced many people out of their home to start migrating to different countries to become a refugee.
