Urbanization
Some cities are called megacities. These are cities with a population of 10 million people or higher. Some examples of cities like this include; Mumbai, LA, New York, and Tokyo.
Cities like London and Paris are considered primate cities, which are cities who's population is twice as big as the second largest city in the country.
Cities have A LOT of infrastructure. Examples of infrastructure include roads, electricity and buildings. The carrying capacity of a city is dependent on how much infrastructure there is.
Cities have a great amount of population density(number of people in an area). For example, Tokyo has over 12,000 people per square mile.
Many people choose to leave rural areas because there are not enough jobs, healthcare, or infrastructure.
