Urbanization
Urban: A city, a center for economic, political and cultural change. They have a lot of growth a a big population.
Mega city: a city with a population of over 10 million, Tokyo, NYC, Mexico City.

Infrastructure: the basic physical and organizational structure of a society, healthcare, roads, sewer systems
Vancouver: Vancouver, Canada is an example of gentrification. They remodeled their downtown area and increased high income housing while decreasing low income housing which caused disagreement

Arab Spring: started around 2012 in North Africa and the Middle East, people on social media joined together and tried to overthrow their dictators :

Refugee: a person who left there country because of fear of being persecuted, they are seeking refuge in another country. They have specific rights and protection under international law
UNHCR: international organization formed by the UN to protect refugees. They open refugee camps for refugees.

Syria: Syria has the largest amount of refugees leaving the country because of war and violence. Most refugees go to Turkey and Europe.

Trade
Balance of trade: Exports minus imports, balance of things being exported and things being imported

Globalization: how countries and people interact and integrate, interaction between different regions and people
Global supply chain: A global supply chain is when different parts and materials of a product are created in different countries, a product is not made in just one country
Winners from globalization: Wealthy get even weathier, developing countries go out of poverty and earned jobs.
Losers from globalization: Working class in developed countries. Lost jobs, did not gain wealth from globalization.
Rural: a rural area is in the country and has farms and a lot of land, small population density
Rural to urban migration - push factors: Lack of economic opportunity, healthcare, and education opportunities

Fair trade: Exporters in developed countries trade with producers in developing countries. Developing countries then have a stable income.
Carrying capacity: the largest population of people that can live on Earth with a balance of resources
Suburban: A place outside of a city where people reside in houses.
Favela: a poor, slummy neighborhood or town in Brazil that has been partly abandoned by the government and tend to be dangerous with gangs and drugs
