      - There were a lot of rules limiting travel such as Japanese ships are forbidden to leave for foreign countries and if you go abroad you are to be executed and the boat impounded.
        Also if you returned to Japan you would be executed. Christianity is not allowed and if westerners try to teach it they will be jailed.

        Since no one wanted to be killed, they did it. This made a sense of forced unity, as if no one would rebel because it looked like everyone is for the Empires rule.
        
        Some of the rules were fair, like "behave with generosity toward your kindred, in order to illustrate harmony and benignity." But others seemed nice but really just showed the seriousness of the government like "warn against sheltering deserters, in order to avoid being involved in their punishment."

        My paragraph about the dynasty: The Quing dynasty legitimize itself through fear and asserting dominance. They First made the men cut their hair to symbolize unity and cut off any sign of rebellion. Then they made rules that not only constricted the rights of citizens, but helped them. One rule was “Cultivate peace and concord in your neighborhoods, in order to prevent quarrels and litigations.” This made them think their regime was not oppressive. Then they cut off any outside information, so no one could tell them the rigid rules were strict. This was the most vital thing because if you don’t know your situation is bad, you can’t know it could be better. This fed into the hierarchy and led to a nation of power.
