Globalization and Trade
Arab Spring - Arab spring was a bunch of protests starting in 2010 about oppressed systems and governments and such. This was important because there was a change in leadership. This relates to globalization because these protests spread throughout the Arab world.
Balance of Trade - the balance of trade is exports minus imports. This is important because it can show the depreciation (lose of value) or appreciation (gaining value) of the country's currency.
capital/investment - capital is also known as wealth. Investing is a way to get more money and it is called a return. This is important as it brings wealth to people and to countries.
Chokepoint - a spot where ships cross to get to another ocean like the Panama Canal. This is highly important because this helps ships with cargo and resources to get to the other side of the continent or world smoothly.
Commodity - a basic need or resource. This is important for putting things under this genre like grains.
Comparative Advantage - countries that succeeds in making goods. This is important because it gives them good trade partners at lower opportunity cost

Creative Destruction - this is a hypothesis or theory of the buisness cycle. This is important because it can be a way of economic evolution and expansion that can provide new items and provide new jobs for the newer generations.
Exports - goods created in one country then sold to another. Exports are important for other countries because it gives us resources and commodities that are not available in the home country.
Fair Trade - when companies or countries trade for other resources. The trade is fair and equal. This is important because it is needed for each side to have a equal value of items.
Globalization - the interaction and integration of people and countries around the world. This is important because it impacts things like culture, travel, trade, and politics.
Global Supply Chain - a chain of resources and ideas used to make something bigger. This is important because people make great advancements in technology and use other materials to create something bigger and better. A tiny product sits at the bottom of the chain but can be put together with something else to create the top of the chain (the final product)
Goods - assets and products. These are things you can touch and hold like food and clothes. Some goods are necessities and are traded from country to country.
Imports - goods and/or services brought into countries. This is important because this gives countries exposure to other cultures and items they do not have access to normally.
Losers from Globalization - countries that do not benefit much from market economies. Losers of globalization normally do not sell a lot of resources.
Per Capita - per capita is the average each person gets. This is normally used for how much money someone gets.
Scarcity - when a item or resource is low. People can trade for items and that is why specialization is important because for example it can be hard to obtain a certain item but countries with that item benefit because they can sell the resources and get money in return which boosts the economy.
Services - something someone does for other things in return. This is a money source for a lot of people. Examples are plumbing, computer repair, technician etc.
Specialization - a country's most popular item sold and distributed to other countries. It is important to know because a country's economy without their specialization may suffer
Trade - someone trading a resource or service for something in return. There are benefits to trade like job creation, GDP, and job creations. Countries trade because of scarcity of objects and because they specialize in things others don't have.
Winners from Globalization - the countries with the most income from market economies. Its significance is showing the countries that are most successful in trade and selling things.
Urbanization
Canada - a country that has needed to go through urban planning and gentrification. Some spots needed more gentrification than others to attract tourists. There is a lot of diversity and migration in Canada.
China - a country with smart infrastructure to fit everyone. There has been ideas with urban planners to make space easier.
Favelas - a low income neighborhood in Brazil with amazing infrastructure to save space. They are often ignored by the government and are crawling with crime in some spots.
Gentrification - the process of making a buildings or house improved to attract popularity or to conform into a more middle class standard. Used for "ghost towns" and is seen as a good thing for job opportunities and a bad thing for those of low income households.
Infrastructure - the organizational and physical system of the public. There are challenges of infrastructure in urban areas because of the need for space.
Megacity - a city with 10 billion people or more. People may be there for jobs or other reasons. Places like New York and Tokyo fit into this category.
Mexico - a country in North America. Could also be put into migration since a lot of immigrants come to the United States for jobs and the advanced medicine. Mexico has gone through gentrification and urbanization to be where it's at today.
Primate City - the biggest city in a country. This could be for education purposes as well as jobs and healthcare. The population is about twice of the second most popular city. There is a difference of economy and is the economic center.
Rural - a countryside like area where there is lack of jobs and health care unlike urban cities. That is why there is not many people in rural areas anymore.
Subarban - a popular place where people reside. Could possibly be because of the more family friendly enviroment,
Syria - majority of Syria's population lives in the cities and urban areas. There is better housing and jobs. However Syria has been a part of a civil
war and so the infrastructure is mostly destroyed.
Urban - urban like areas are mostly cities. Urban areas need urban planning to make space for thousands of people including roads, housing, and buildings. Urban areas have lots of opportunities and better healthcare. Lots of young people go to live in cities,
Vancouver - it is a city and example of a urban area. There are job opportunities and great infrastructure
. There is great gentrification going on.
Migration
Asylum - protection given to refugees or someone who has left their home country for reasons like persecution. This is important because in the host country the government permits them to be there for safety.
Brain Drain - when intelligent people of a certain area go somewhere else for better opportunities. This shows that highly educated people leave some areas to look for better opportunities in other countries.
Container Ships - a ship that carries resources to other locations. These are important and occasionally transfer through places like the Panama Canal. They can be really big.
Carrying Capacity - the maximum a mode of transportation can carry. This can be things like trains and container ships.
Documented Immigrant - someone from another country who is there legally by things like a VISA or documentation. It's important to know the difference between a documented immigrant and undocumented immigrant. Immigrants come here for job purposes, better education, or better healthcare.
Immigrant - someone who comes to another country possibly for their life time and may or may not be documented and approved by the government. There is mixed emotions about immigrants because some come for job opportunities, but others see them as a threat for taking jobs.
Refugee - someone who is seeking asylum from a country possibly because of persecution. This is a important term to know for when people talk about them. They try and find safety in other countries.
Rural to urban migration – push factors - push factors of rural areas is the lack of economic activity and health care which is why majority of the population lives in more urban areas.
Rural to urban migration- pull factors - people want to go to more urban areas like cities because theres more people there, theres family ties, more jobs, and the appeal to young people.
Undocumented Immigrant - A immigrant who is in a country without documentation and going through the inspection. Some countries deny immigrants for things like criminal records or current health reasons.
UNHRC - a council in charge of protecting human rights around the world. Stands for United Nations Human Rights Council and they may help with migration cases.
